Smelly Gym Bag?
Now that you have been working hard towards your new year’s resolution for over a month, it’s time to ask yourself “have I cleaned my gym bag, ever?” Most gym goers probably haven’t, but really SHOULD. When you go to the gym, regulars are diligent about using the spray bottles to clean their machines and weights after every use; however the average gym user is not so diligent. Therefore everything you touch goes home with you in your gym bag. Your gym bag is then bacteria’s playground.
Here are a few tips and tricks in making sure that your gym bag is sanitary, odour free and not bacterias playground.
- Take everything out of your gym bag, including all pockets (inside and out).
- If there is a removable piece on the bottom of the bag remove this as well.
- Throw your gym bag in the wash with a load of old towels (if wash instructions allow) or soak it in your bathtub or sink.
- Let the gym bag air dry by putting it on a flat surface, such as on a table (with a towel underneath the gym bag) or on top of a dryer.
- Once it’s dried, wipe it down with an antibacterial wipe including the handles, the bottom and everywhere in between. The plastic pieces can hold the most germs, sanitizing them will help kill anything living.
- Wash any towels, clothes and or gym shoes before placing them in your clean bag.
Tips to keeping your bag from smelling and becoming a bacteria hotspot.
- Leave a pack of antibacterial wipes in your gym bag, give it a wipe every second gym trip.
- Leaving an air freshener in the bag is not a bad idea.
- Sprinkling a little baking soda in your shoes after ever use will help keep the smells away.
