Teetering on the cusp of bankruptcy, Fred Edwards saw a great opportunity
in Servpro Canada when he decided to scoop up the business originally
started in 1964. Under his leadership, the company did a 180 and is now
a successful and profitable firm that employs more than 800 people. Edwards
plans to continue his dream of expanding the business nationwide in the next
five years.

Through expansions and acquisitions, Servpro franchises will be established in
every province across Canada, building a truly national empire from what was a
business ready to close its doors when he took it over. In the last three years alone,
his company has increased its sales revenue by 150 per cent.

The company, which provides janitorial and maid services, construction
cleanup, highrise window cleaning, carpet and upholstery care, disaster
restoration and other specialty services, is in discussions with a large U.S.
firm that will “synergize the brand” and take Servpro’s services across
North America if and when an alliance is formed.

Edwards’ values are reflected in the corporate culture of Servpro,
since it prides itself on a customer-focused philosophy and strong
support of all its franchisees and employees. This western success
story is one of countless similar stories, yet what sets Edwards apart
is his commitment to give back to the community. He’s taken a
personal and professional interest in helping organizations as a
lead sponsor of Missing Children Society of Canada’s annual golf
tournament, sitting as the organization’s vice-chairman. He’s donated
a HandiBus to the Calgary HandiBus Association and also
sponsors the Business Fore Calgary Kids tournament.

Edwards has also worked with SAIT Polytechnic to help provide
scholarships for the next generation of business leaders, but
his professional and industry commitments run much deeper.
He belongs to BOMA Calgary, the Alberta Construction Safety
Association, Clean Calgary Association and the Association of
Residential Cleaning Services International. Wherever he goes,
Edwards is sure to inspire young minds and make Calgary a better
place for tomorrow.
